hi! i use moh and i don't do near all that she has in the book. i might do more if my kids were older. right now what works for us is making a notebook page on each lesson (we don't do the timeline) and a little map work. i also use the quizzes, read outloud, to help them retain what we have learned.
about the math u see manipulatives: the box actually came from my grandmother's house. it's just a plastic box, probably from walmart, with several dividers in it. it's not perfect because the spaces are small enough for the blocks but not big enough for a hand to fit in and grab the smallest pieces, well not my hand anyway.
I don't use Mystery of History, but it sounds interesting. I wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to go back to my FIAR roots and use it for Kindergarten next year with my youngest son. I think he needs the same opportunity that his siblings had. And I think they will enjoy going back through the books (I call them old friends) as well.
