Survived

We survived the rain and ice, well I survived by staying home!

We had a great Thanksgiving and I only took a couple of pictures so there aren't any good ones to share here. We were all stuffed by the end of the day.

I ventured out for shopping with a friend on Friday, that was interesting. I bought socks for 1/2 off at our local Fred Meyer store, which is apparently a huge draw! Go figure. There was actuallyan article in the paper about the 1/2 of sock sale. Who knew socks were such a big black Friday sale item? Since we generally do not buy our blessings much in the way of electronics or toys for Christmas I didn't participate in the competitive shopping of the day so I had a fairly calm and uneventful day. It was actually enjoyable after all week at home.

I may or may not have a new fascination with selling items on Craigslist. We posted our glider rocker and a really nice young couple came to purchase the chair. Some of my blessings were not thrilled with the sell of the chair. Bless their little hearts, I can see their point, that chair has been in our home all of their lives, but it was time for something to go and that just happened to be the first thing to go.

Check out this article from our local newpaper.

Just a glimpse of the strange weather here in Fairbanks. I haven't left my home since Sunday night.

I'm 40...

I have never been one to worry or stress about my age. I am the age I am and there is nothing I can do to change my age.
First thing this morning after waking, I opened the door to let the dog out and I heard something I did not want to hear, the sound of water dripping off of the roof! Oh, no, all that beautiful snow, about 8-9 inches of new beautiful snow! The temperature had risen overnight and we had snow melting off of the roof and it rained all day.
I didn't take pictures of any of that, maybe when it is all finished. It is after 11PM and I still hear water dripping outside.
Get this, the roads are horrible here at these temperatures, pure ice. Public schools here were cancelled today and tomorrow, that happens so rarely here. I think the last time school was cancelled here was eight or nine years ago and for this very same reason. Forty below doesn't stop things in Fairbanks, Alaska but thirty five to forty above does! That is so funny to me!

The decorations

My gift made by my girls.

Blessings making cake!

Cake, they bought the trick candles. What does it mean when someone is warming their hands by the warmth of your birthday candles?

After the munchkin went to bed we played Yahtzee, fun times for sure.
All in all, at the end of the day it was a great day. Just what I like, calm, restful and spent with the people I love most.

Now for today,
Cleaning, baking and waiting for my wonderful husband to get home from taking Judith to the Clinic. She has not been able to put any weight on her right leg since late Sunday night....wondering what is going on here?

My birthday present

When my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I knew right away that I wanted new lights for the kitchen. So, last weekend we went shopping. Here is the new kitchen light. I forgot to take pictures of the old fixtures but let's just say they were as old as the house and that was the mid 80s. Now remember that I am a simple person so this is nothing fancy or high end. I am very happy with our choice.
And as I type my husband is almost finished with the new ceiling fan as well!

New look

I have yet to find the look for my blog since the change to Wordpress, but since I have enjoyed WP, I am not complaining one bit. This isn't quite the look I am going for but at least I have a custom header right now. I will attempt something different later on, like January when things are at their coldest. Even though we have lots of snow on the ground right now, these fall pictures are the latest and best pictures of the kids. And it reminds me of a fun day!

Monday

I love walking into scenes like this.

Makes for a super de duper Monday.

I notice that even the brown dog got in on this one.
Benjamin was already in bed for his nap and he is still too messy to eat and hold a book anyway.

Gratitude

Today I am thankful for finding the food source for our fruit flies, I had some forgotten potatoes in the back of the pantry. I am so thankful that this horrible problem is now over, or will be once the remaining few die.

Should be Moody Monday

There has been a very major malfunction here today. Should the time change cause this? What is the problem. I did notice that our home is not the only one this way today. A friend called this morning and things were a little off at her house as well and I noticed one hsb blogger with some issues as well while reading my friend's activity before typing up this post.

The day started with Benjamin waking up at 6:30am and staying up. I would like to get up at 6:30 am everyday but not accompanied by precious little fella. I had a huge meltdown from one of the Blessings (who will remain nameless for his/her own sake). Both boys were ready for lunch an hour early which I do say is due to the time change. After lunch another Blessing had a major meltdown over a minor thing. And Benjamin has been a little grumpy since waking up from his nap(which wasn't long enough). Thankfully one Blessing has managed to hold it all together today. I could have handled things better but I maintained fairly calm.

Right now I am drained and pretty much counting down the minutes until my wonderful husband comes home and he will literally make everything better. We can eat leftovers (very thankful for leftovers) and watch Monday Night Football as a family.

If I were paid with money for this job, I would have given my notice today. This is the real deal homeschool. Family life for better or worse. Today was full of both. Tomorrow will be, well, tomorrow.

Gratitude

I knew I would not be able to post every day. Yesterday was crazy, school at home in the morning, afternoon woodland crafts for Levi, home for quick dinner and then off to taking the older kids to Frontine at church. Then home for bed.
Today I am thankful for learning what true friendship really is all about. Unfortunately it has meant some tough times for my friends and myself. But those times have grown us and strenghtened us and made us what we are.

Gratitude Day 2

Day 2--
I am greatful for my wonderful husband. The older we get the better we are together. We often talk in amazement as to how much more we love each other. It isn't all bliss, we are only human, but at the end of the day, there is no one else I would rather spend time with than that man that is my husband.

Gratitude Challenge

I thought it would be helpful for me to participate in Gratitude Challenge!
I do not know if I can post everyday but I can post today!

I am thankful for a healthy family. After almost two weeks of pink eye and colds it is good to have everyone healthy.
