Wednesday

Benjamin is waking up Levi, good morning!

255

We went fishing for a few hours on Wednesday morning but I had a headache so there were not many photos taken while on the boat. I took a nap.

After fishing we loaded up and headed back north for our next stop. Chitina, Alaska. We actually stopped a bit before this and attended Wednesday evening service where we had camped on Sunday night.

We then headed to our camping spot.

My husband’s long time friend met us down here as they were planning on going out for salmon dipnetting the next morning.

The Blessings and I were able to go out on the river  but I left all cameras at the camper. Judith had her camera so I shall have to upload those tomorrow.

Tuesday

Tuesday was our long day on the water. Although, we really have become accustomed to the fact that we just can’t get out as early as we once did. We had a breakfast of breakfast burritos. See my husband’s campstove oven? This has revolutionized his outdoor cooking.

More scenery, it was a beautiful day. I would have loved a picture of all of us in the boat fishing. I would use it for our Christmas card picture.

After dinner we went out for ice cream and a playground visit.

And then a drive to see if we could possibly catch any pink salmon from the shore. We saw the black bears feasting on salmon.

The people viewing the bears up close. I don’t think this is a great idea. We took drive by photosSmile

No Internet

Just as things are slowing down and the leaves are starting to turn yellow, we have no internet. As soon as I figure out what is going on I will finish our in state vacation posts.
Off to get things ready for the first week of school. We start Monday!

The Weekend

Saturday and Sunday were filled with putting food in jars.
I didn't count jars of relish. But I made two batches of sweet zucchini relish and one batch of dill zucchini relish.
Our green beans did not produce a large quantity but I canned four quarts last week. Friends of ours have an abundance of green beans and after they stocked their larder they shared. The crew went over to pick. After all was said and done we have 23 quarts of green beans. Very thankful for all those beans. I still hope to glean a few more quarts from our garden if the frost holds off.
Soon we will pull carrots and see what we have there. And there is celery and herbs to gather. Potatoes as well, oh I love harvest time!

Later

I will continue our vacation photos in a few days. That can wait.
A friend's 13 year old son died today in a bicycle/vehicle collision.

Monday, Onward Toward Valdez

We stopped at the parking lot of a church where we know the Pastor and camped there. They generously allow us to sleep in their parking lot and use the facilities inside their church. After breakfast and visiting with our friends we were off for the last leg of our journey.

Worthington Glacier through the windshield. Yes, the windshield is cracked. Almost every Alaskan windshield is cracked, this one looks like a road map.

This man spends all of his time putting on lures, untangling, unsnagging and still takes us fishing.

Here he was casting Judith’s pole after working on her pole and he caught the first fish of the trip. So, he still gets to fish.

Welcome aboard silver salmon!

A beautiful day in Valdez creates what they call afternoon chop. Well, we finally got all of our ducks in a row and out to fish during afternoon chop. My husband and I were questioning ourselves for taking the crew out in a small boat but once were were at the fishing spot things were calm and sunny. Only one fish was caught that first trip out.
