Views from a Birthday

Judith turned eleven today!

Birthday cake

The birthday girl

Her cake

She made the cake, decorated the cake and cut the cake.
Angela, this was the best picture I could get of Liberty, every picture she was either taking a bite or chewing.

Blowing out the candles

She asked for her own tackle box and she got a wiggle wort lure.

Happy Birthday to Judith Rae!

Fall, Out of Doors

Bird Hunting

Daddy took today off from work. While the older three were busy with school work Daddy took Benjamin out on the four wheeler to look for ducks and they came back with a ruffed grouse.

Enjoying the last days of Autumn

Tuesday

I used a “box” curriculum for Kindergarten and First Grade for Levi and while he didn’t complain, it just wasn’t the education I wanted for my Blessings. After much self-education on options and philosophies I began piecing our curriculum together. Some years were good, some were great and others were overwhelming.

This year I needed a little help and after much research and review reading I decided to plunge into a box again, BUT a different kind of box. The Trailguide to Learning box, Path of Settlement to be exact. We are enjoying our journey so far and someday I will write a complete review.

Art has always been an area that I have neglected. Talk about good intentions…

Now it is written into the schedule and we have art lessons on a regular basis.

This week…splatter and stencil art with watercolor.

They spent an hour or so working on their art work.

Today was Monday

Today, I slept later than I wanted. On a Monday no less. Which means school started later than planned and today is a class day for Levi so we had to leave the house whether we were finished or not.

I think everyone got quite a bit of school work accomplished.

During class the girls, Benjamin and I went to church to do a small chore and then a quick trip to the library before picking up Levi.

Once we arrived home it was chore time. I have a question. Why does chore time take so long? Looks like we will be tightening the reigns a bit around here until we can relearn a few things.  Like diligence and focus.

The Skies Today

The sky beckoned to me twice today. Midday and then again this evening.

Midday skies, just ominous looking.

This evening, the sunset was just so colorful and after a grey day a little color was like eye candy.

These were taken toward the sun.

These were on the other side of the house, away from the sunset.

This orange and red drew me outside this evening. I miss the southern falls. The full color show was just a favorite of mine. I used to look at Alaskan falls half empty and only see the brief yellow birch leaves in the fall and sigh and miss the color show. But for the color show here you have to look down at the ground, and when you do you see red.
