Myths Busted

So, if you are not a homeschool family, what do you think we do all day? What do you think my house looks like at any given moment? Do you think that my home is perpetually clean? Do you think that we sit around and do our work at school desks all neatly arranged in rows? Well, let me give you the facts. Thankfully my husband balances me very well. He reminds me often that we live in our home and that the kids and I are here 24/7 most days. Think about it, when a house is full it is being used all the time. Our house doesn't sit empty for hours a day.

Here two blessings work on science notebooks, we are studying insects, this was Wednesday and we learned about insect mouths. Yuck!

While they worked, I tackled this basket of laundry. I am thankful for clothes to wear, people to wear them and the washing machine and dryer to wash and dry them.

This is why I don't sew very often.

Two things

When I just logged in, I saw that I am the only person on hsb right now....that has never happened. Have the bloggers gone to instant response sights??? Please don't go fellow bloggers!!!

Now, for my real post.
School is clicking along really well right now but we will have a bump in the road in a week so I had better enjoy it while it lasts.
The two oldest blessings are studying the Middle Ages and on Monday we read about New Zealand so they made kiwi birds out of kiwi.

I would post pictures of them but for some reason....I can't. I just changed from Internet Explorer to Foxfire...any help here friends? I got pictures on here but I had to us IE.....argh!

About three issues ago, The Girlhood Home Companion magazine had instructions to make a tote. We bought our fabric back in the fall and there it sat. Truth be told, I still getting up with a baby at night and between home and school, I just didn't have the time or energy. Now that we have settled into the new year and I am sleeping all night uninterrupted, I feel a little more freedom in our afternoons to do such things. I began my tote first so if I made any major mistakes it would be on my bag. (seriously!) The bag was so easy and I am now hooked! Bags, bags, bags to be made. Quickly and easily!  I would have chosen a different fabric and lay out but hey for a first try, not too shabby.

Changes

I am in the process of changing things up around the homefront here at the blog so bear with the changes please. It always takes me a while to get it together since I am a DIY blogger. And I have decided on a name change...I have wanted a change for some time but this one hit me a while back and I have just had some time to get this taken care of.

May the Lord find us faithful.

What a weekend!!

It was a not so busy but enjoyable weekend.

  • Friday: I got a long over due hair cut!!! I always enjoy visiting with my friend that cuts my hair.

  • Saturday: I spend the morning doing laundry, making bread, ironing clothes and getting ready to be able to attend a Dr. Jay Wile in the evening. I was very much looking forward to attending these workshops and meeting Dr. Wile.

  • Sunday: Well, that was church. Preaching was great as usual all day! One of our Pastor's is preaching through 2 Peter on Sunday evenings and we are at the beginning in chapter 1. Good stuff, really good stuff!!

Now it is Monday, and the Blessings and I are all eating breakfast and getting ready to begin our day.
May the Lord find us faithful.

Days

I should have gone to bed 45 minutes ago, but I greatly enjoy the quiet time after everyone goes to bed.

It has been a great day, Mrs. L was able to come today and she stopped off and picked up a little friend to join us today. The kids had fun playing, watching a movie and making these cakes that look like a fudgesicle. Mrs. L had a special pan that she had brought over for us to try.

We were invited to dinner at a friends' home, which we always enjoy spending time with. We had fried chicken and all the yummy fixins.

Dad was home today and we always enjoy time with Dad.

Dad and the kids have begun a "gym" class. They are walking on the treadmill, and doing exercises such as sit ups and push ups and jumping jacks. What do I do? Keep the baby entertained. But I did get on the tread mill this morning. I turn 40 this year, so this is the year of exercise and good health for me anyway. I don't have a pounds to lose goal but I have a goal clothing size....just healthy not skinny. Skinny is way over rated and who determines what skinny is? Any Hoo, after that fried chicken today, the treadmill is calling my name tomorrow!

This baby is into everything, literally:

He is 13 months old now....my how time flies!

Cold temperatures...Tis the Season

We are having a cold snap here which is really not a big surprise. The temps. are staying around -30 right now but hopefully we will get a little warmer temps. in the next couple of days. For now I am enjoying being home and thankful that I do not have to get out.

Last December/early January we had a long cold spell because I remember missing quite a few Sundays after baby was born because we didn't want to get him out. Now, he is a one man wrecking crew! Fun, but oh so busy.

My days with Sarah Palin and Pioneer Woman

Even though my husband has personally met Sarah Palin I have only seen her from afar when the blessings and I attended her inaugaration. So far that I couldn't get a good picture.

I don't hang out in villages during a flood year while the governor comes to assess the damages like some people who live in this house and just happen to work on the runway and notice lots of people gathering around a plane that just landed!

I read Going Rogue last week.

Going Rogue: An American Life

A quote from the book:

"People outside Alaska are often clueless about our reliance on natural food sources. (You know you're an Alaskan when at least twice a year your kitchen doubles as a meat-processing plant.) They don't use common sense in considering why our biologists need responsible tools for abundant game management. But as ninety-year-old Alaska Native leader Sydney Hunnington told Todd, "Nowadays, common sense is an endangered species." "

And as many of you have seen here at this blog, my kitchen does turn into a meat/fish processing plant about 3-4 times a year. Lord willing we will have that happen really soon to restock our freezer with moose.

And at the same time I have been reading and cooking from  Pioneer Woman Cooks

The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl

So, I have laughed and cried and learned more about politics than I have ever wanted to know. Plus I have eated yummy Marlboro Man Sandwiches and Meatloaf and gotten oohs and ahhs over dinner. And if you come to think about it, this was a great pairing, serious reading and yummy food, Pioneer Woman's  humor and the straight forward words of Sarah Palin. A week like no other and I didn't have to leave home!

You see, reading is a luxury for me right now. I read during stolen moments and as I am falling asleep at night, not that I am complaining just stating the facts.

May the Lord find us faithful.

Over

It is over!! I have been working on decorating a wedding reception with friends and the wedding was today. I really enjoy doing these things but I am always glad when they are finished. Can you believe that my camera never once made it to the church??? Friends are supposed to email some pictures to me but I have not received them yet. It was truly beautiful. The theme was a winter wonderland so everything was white, silver and blue and it came together well.

Insomnia...I should be exhausted and sleeping but I am wide awake! I hope to be able to get some sleep after typing this up. I have to get up and get moving in the morning for church. UGH!

A word.... so I have read on a few blogs about having a word of the year, so I have chosen a word for 2010>>>>>JOY!
