Cleaning the Dry Erase Board

A few weeks ago I searched Pinterest for some way to clean our dry erase board. I came across one pin that said to use toothpaste. Toothpaste? Really?

The white toothpaste NOT gel. So, I bought a tube of Pepsodent.

I started off very skeptical but, hey, the toothpaste cost $.89 and I could brush my teeth if this didn't work.
And, it worked.
I squeezed out toothpaste (squeeze from the bottom, not the middle, of the tube, please) onto a cleaning cloth and began wiping down the board. I could see a little removal going on
but it looked horrible. I kept going and rubbed toothpaste all over the board. Then I got a wet cloth and started removing the toothpaste, that's when the board began to look clean. I was thrilled. Eighty-nine cents and a clean dry
erase board equals one happy Mom.

Before, some people around here fail to erase the board when they are finished.

Right side clean, left side in progress with toothpaste applied.

Finished product.

  2. Very impressive! I would clean & clean our board and there would still be some marks left. We took the board out of the classroom now since the remodel (& the girls are older), but I still can't force myself to get rid of it quite yet, so it's sitting in the garage in case I find a use for it. I'll have to try the toothpaste. Maybe it could be a garage message board, haha. (Oh, btw, I left a reply on your Bright Lights comment on my latest blog post. Let me know if I can be of any help). Have a good week! We got a little over 4" snow last night.

  4. Magic Erasers work too. Pretty sure this is cheaper, though. :0)
