The Results of a Fishing Trip

Daddy went halibut fishing over the weekend. Tuesday afternoon was fish processing time. As I have said many times, this is a family affair so everyone works, and I mean everyone.

A halibut fillet. That’ll feed the family!

Judith was paper and tape and label station.

Elisabeth and Levi held freezer bags opened and brought them to me for closing with air pressed out. They also weighed the packages and kept a running tally to see how much halibut was going into the freezer. I think about thirty pounds went into the freezer. Store price is about $16.99 lb. So that was a pretty good haul.

After Benjamin woke up from his nap he started playing with the girls baby doll before he started helping with the fish.

See his shirt? It says “My Dad can out hunt your Dad!” If you know my husband you know this is the truth in most cases.

Since all Sharpies have been stored up very high since Benjamin has a grand fascination with such markers, he found their easy access wonderful. He gladly helped label packages. He also enjoyed moving the packages from the dining room to the kitchen table and then back again.

  1. Oh Melissa, you have my husband almost in fisherman frenzy. I showed him this post and he is drooling. We will need your expert advice, for sure, when we get there.

  2. LOL, so cute, Benjamin that is. Wow, good eating I'd say. Your man sure does provide well in the meat department. We might have over 10,000 lakes in MN, but they don't bring home fish that big.

  3. Looks like quite the job. Glad it all got done. It looks like everyone had a good time working too. :)

  4. Melissa,

It looks like you have a little fish processing store right in your own home! What a blessing it must be to have your own fresh fish without having to pay high supermarket prices.
