My husband's preference for wood gathering, cutting and splitting is to do so in the winter so he can have spring, summer and fall for other things. His goal is to fill that snow covered wood storage thing behind him before the snow is gone. He cuts, some times the Blessings help split but they definitely do the stacking!
He is a hard worker! And its great for your kids too. Does he get the trees from your property?
ReplyDeleteMy dad lives in Wisconsin and does wood like this also. They went through 14 cords this winter ( wood stove is their only heat ) But with snow so deep they have to wait till spring to bring the logs down the mountain and across the creek. It keeps them young! ( Dad is 80) He loves the whole process. We just got our next years wood! Free! ( being city folk that is rare) Its waiting to be split and stacked.
ReplyDeleteWell thought out plan. =) I've heard that trees are easier to cut in the winter because they have less water in them. We have 22 acres of timber that needs to be thinned ~ it is overwhelming how much needs to be done, but bit bit we'll get it. My boys are old enough now to do more and that will be a blessing. Hope your dh gets his goal! =)
ReplyDeleteWow, never heard of doing it in the winter, interesting. Glad he has a good plan for it. :)

He gets a good work out and it is a good thing to do in the winter, especially now as we have more sunlight and warmer days.
