I give....

May the Lord find us faithful.

I finally give in. I have been doing well the past two weeks with routines, before bed (it has been nice to get up this week and have clothes already waiting in the bathroom for me) and morning, school has been going fairly well. (I still have some scheduling kinks to work out) But we are moving forward nicely. I have been keeping the kitchen clean and the bathrooms clean. Meals have been cooked and laundry has been kept up with. That is alot but it is not enough. I have not been making time to do the "other" things that need to be accomplished. As I said above, I do give in. I am getting out the homekeeper's journal and getting back on track with getting  the "other" things kept up with. Got to run and get back to work, I just needed a short break and a glass of water.

new camera!!! and oh yeah, we are, I mean were, okay back to are making clay pots today

May the Lord find us faithful.

Isn't it funny that the camera was noted first! Any how, this will be quick as I have unhappy clay workers now. One has defected and the other two are just playing with the clay. Sometimes, things do not work out as planned. Here are the pictures from the beginning of our little "project"

September2007071.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

September2007075.jpg picture by kaysmarmey This picture of blessing #2 made me realize that I need to have my little artists create new masterpieces for the frames in the plate holder in our dining room.

September2007073.jpg picture by kaysmarmey She has a beard. She will hope she doesn't when she is older! I will probably be taking pictures like crazy this afternoon once the house is cleaned up and school put away. I want to take some pictures of the family room and our school area, etc.

September2007080.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

September2007087.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

My defector never came back, he did not want to get clay hands again. I read the container(always do this after you get into the project!) to add water to shape, etc. I knew that, we took a pottery class a few years ago with our homeschool group. So the girl blessings and I kept going and we each made a clay pot. We are using Mystery of History and studied Gideon  today, thus the clay pots. We have a few more things to do before the formal education part of our day is completed but the sun is shining brightly and I think it will be calling the "little people" outside. What are you doing today?

Fire

May the Lord find us faithful.

Today has been a slow and not very productive day outside of the normal routine. Things have been accomplished but not anything outside of  school work, cooking, keeping the kitchen clean and a little laundry. I actually took a nap today. Who knows what was going on there. I definitely know we need to get outside some tomorrow afternoon before heading to the grocery store and church. Disclaimer: It was dreadfully grey and drizzly here today. Those days do not do much for me. I should pick up steam here in a bit and do a little homekeeping. After this is posted I am shutting down the computer and :

  1. Getting the star theather 2 out of the box and we will star gaze!

  2. Bath time for all blessings

  3. Evening Family Bible reading and prayer

  4. Read aloud before bed

  5. Put blessings to bed

  6. Put on my pajamas

  7. Deep breath

  8. Sit in my cozy new family room chair and read, read, read until bedtime.

I have a fire going to warm up the house and try to keep the boiler from coming on so much. (Trying to conserve that heating fuel.) I also love the warmth the woodstove gives to the house. I had to jump up and take a couple of pictures of my chair and books.

September2007054.jpg picture by kaysmarmey I love this corner of the room. I have kind of silently declared it my chair. I love to sit there and read. Of course, when I read to the blessings I have to sit on the couch so we can all fit. They are getting big.The camera wasn't too agreeable with me so I stopped before taking a picture of the woodstove. I will try to take one when I get the new camera, I am going shopping tomorrow but may wait until Friday to make the purchase so my sweetheart can help with the actual purchase. He has given me guidelines and the okay to make the purchase so we will see what happens tomorrow! Wait until I post the candy land cake we will be making for blessing #3's birthday! She is so excited, we are going birthday day shopping tomorrow so we will get all the necessary candy and supplies to make the cake, the cups, plates, napkins etc. those who have been readers here long will know how we do birthdays here. It is a whole day celebration beginning with breakfast and goes from there!  Let the evening begin.......

Jenn gave me the "You make me smile award" and I am deeply honored and thrilled that I make someone smile! Jenn makes me smile so that is a two way street we have going on here.

I am passing this award on to:

2. Aussie in America makes me smile as I enjoy what she shares about her school and home.

3. Keri brings a smile to my face. I love her organized school closet, the books and movies she shares with us and in the winter I enjoy all those Florida pictures.

Next, these tomatoes came from my Pastor's garden. I picked them on Saturday. I cannot wait to eat that big yellow one, they are my favorites!

September2007015.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

These tomatoes are from our two tomato plants below.

September2007026.jpg image by kaysmarmey

September2007016.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

This is our lone cabbage that we harvested from the garden last week. I finally got around to making cabbage rolls today. Here is the process:

1. Boil the cabbage head for 5-10 minutes then drain and let cool a few minutes.

September2007032.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

2. Make meat filling:

1 lb. ground meat

1/4 cup brown rice

some small diced carrot, onion and optional green pepper

add some salt and pepper

and 1 egg

Stir to combine.

Pull off one cabbage leaf at a time and fill (about 2 TBSP of meat mixture) and roll like an egg roll

September2007035.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

September2007036.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

Cut up and remaining cabbage and place it in the bottom of your crock pot. Add the rolls and cover with:

1- 15 ounce can of tomato sauce

1 cup brown sugar

sometimes I add a splash of cider vinegar

Put your crock pot on high or low depending on your timeline and they will be ready in about 4-8 hours.

September2007038.jpg picture by kaysmarmey

Lastly, some play dough creations:

There are chips(triangles and doughnuts and the far left item is unknown to me)

These Bible verses for this week really showed me the character of God and what I need to have as a goal as a mother.

Psalm 103:8-14

8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

Family Weekend

May the Lord find us faithful.

We have just been spending time together this weekend. We have not done any thing major, just little things that need to be accomplished. It has cooled down here and it looks as though it will stay that way. It started raining last night and it hasn't stopped (now it is down to a slight drizzle). The sky is gray and the leaves are all yellow and orange and falling like crazy.

My sweetheart and blessing #1 are off working on a boiler for a lady at church. The kitchen has been cleaned and the girls and I made cookies and they are baking right now. I have visited a few blogs and am now posting my post. It will be good to get back to normal tomorrow. Oh, no moose or bear from my husband's outings. I do have pictures of a moose head that one of the men in my Pastor's hunting party got but we can't find the camera. I looked in the van but did not see it, I will look after church tonight again. It is too rainy right now.

Just tickled pink

May the Lord find us faithful.

I was just thinking on the way to town this morning(I had the ever dreaded but necessary trip to the OB/GYN for the annual exam) that I would love to get pictures of our family on Sunday after church with the fall colors but that I would have to get someone to take the pictures with their camera as we are limbo. Then, this afternnon a camera came in the mail. I knew it was coming but not that fast.  I am very thankful.

Now, we have had a few girly days this week with it being hunting season and all. So,we have watched cooking shows and made homemade pizza and made some cream filled cupcakes using the girls ever expanding supply of kid sized cooking "sets". Today's girly time was to consist of painting these cheapo ceramic animals that the girls had bought at WM. I have been putting them off because of the mess. Today was the day. We arrive home from the morning appointment and some thrift shopping (no finds) and the girls go looking for their supplies. One could not find her stuff. I looked for a minute and then I stopped and said we were going to pray that the Lord would help us to remember where we had put them/ to help us find them. I prayed aloud so the girls could hear. I asked God to help us find them and thanked Him for caring about the little things and for wanting us to ask His help. Then I had to finish what I was doing but told her I would come back and look up high. I looked up high and nothing. Then, while I was in their closet I decided to restack some art supplies that are kept down low. Then, I moved something and there they were, neatly stored with some other art supplies in a handy hanging organizer that had gotten hidden by dress up clothes. What a wonderful God we serve, I would not want to even handle the little things by myself. We both prayed and thanked God for answering our prayer. What a wonderful thing for a child to see that even though we cannot see God, he  is  a loving and caring God who wants to answer our prayers big or little.

A Camera!!!!!

May the Lord find us faithful.

I received a used, get us through camera in the mail today.  Thanks Pa-Pa!!! I will have to get out tomorrrow and take some fall pictures but here are a couple of pictures with a nice sepia option that this camera has.

301

This is entry number 301!

May the Lord find us faithful.

Fall freezer defrost

Defrosting the freezer is one of those jobs that my sweetheart usually does, I help a little. ( I really dislike this job) But he is hunting today and I am here to do it alone in great anticipation that in a few days we will need defrosted, cleaned and neatly organized freezer space to store fresh moose meat. I made a huge watery mess. But now it is all clean and closed up to begin its job as freezer. In a couple of hours I will go out and load it back up. That part I enjoy doing. I like to have all of the items organized neatly and by like item. So, this I am glad to do alone. Well, the girl blessings will help. We have not had much of a girly day yet, but we will get to some crafts and cooking this afternnon and evening.

May the Lord find us faithful.

Busy day

Last night right before I was heading to bed my sweetheart called, He was coming home!!! I had been totally unproductive all weekend. Thankfully, I had been neat and kept the kitchen cleaned and the house straighten. So, I moved kids around, the girls were in my bed and had to go to their own beds for the night. Then I threw a load of towels in the washer to get a head start on Monday since my day would be different than I had planned. So, I watched Pollyanna again while the towels washed.

So, my day has been spent grocery shopping, putting groceries away, washing clothes, cooking dinnner, and making breakfast burritos for the hunters to take out on their hunt. Blessing #1 is going with this time out so he is thoroughly thrilled about his first big game hunt with the men.

We will enjoy some girly time tomorrow!!! Plus, we have two boxes at the post office from Rainbow Resources that I have been waiting for so I will enjoy opening those. Then, I have to find places to put it all!!!

May the Lord find us faithful.

Sunday Monday

I am posting tonight and will be around in the afternoon to read posts. Whew! I have  had one unproductive weekend. I really do not like to admit that but sometimes I must be transparent.  I literally have been a tv watcher this weekend. It has always amazed me when the Sunday school lessons, sermons, etc. all point to the same or very similar subject. This morning our Sunday school teacher said he was going to be talking about what we do or watch for entertainment in the next few weeks. Now isn't that just a coincidence  that this will be the subject when I have just made a self-determination to not even sit down to the computer until after school is over? (no it is not at all!!) Then we had a guest preacher today and the morning and evening sermon were just wonderfully convicting and thought provoking. Tonight especially for me, he spoke about worship and many wonderful points were brought out. I really need to work on my intimate relationship with God. I have failed so miserably this summer in this area. I really function well on a schedule and that is one reason I felt year around schooling would be good for our family. I maintained fairly well until July and August, then I just put it all aside when we had company and then some work around the house and getting ready to begin again. So here I sit no closer to my God, actually probably farther away due to my lack of time spent reading, studying, meditating on the Word of God, and praying. Oh, I have read my Bible sporatically and prayed. But has it been sweet? Not as sweet as it could or should be.  I remember a time when I would drink in the Word of God, it was a "peaches and cream" time in my life, now I am taking in the word of God like a medicine, I take it because I know I need it  and it is good for me, but I have not had a hunger and thirst for it as I used to have. Tonight I am hungry and thirsting for the Word. Oh, how refreshing it will be!

May the Lord find us faithful.

Pollyanna

Masterpiece Theatre - Pollyanna DVD Cover Art

The blessings and I just finished watching this movie and it was great! I cannot recommend this movie enough. I have to admit that I have not read the book which is not normal for me. I have the "read the book and then watch the movie" philosophy. But this was the best movie on the library movie shelf. This movie is also overdue and the only reason I remembered that I checked it out was that I went to the library to check out some books that I had requested online and she asked if I had returned it. Fortunately, our library is great about late books and movies. We promptly came home and after settling in we watched the overdue movie. I cried and cried. The Disney version is all fluff and noise compared to this version. I am also going to be requesting Pollyanna in book version as soon as I post this entry. It will be our next read aloud.  I also just read a review of Pollyanna and it makes me even more anxious to read this book to the blessings (and probably on my own first as I have one read aloud going, I am impatient). Then, (this post is a little like "If you give a moose a muffin...." Since I watched this movie and then realized we needed to read the book, I then realized that I should get back to listing my occassional "good book" posts as I did in the winter.  Oh, it hurts to get sidetracked so easily!!

May the Lord find us faithful.

It's Friday, I can post all day long

Not really, but I do hope to get around this evening to visit your bloggy homes and leave comments. I do have some errands to run today. Someone gave me a gift card to JoAnn's so I am going to go see what I can find today at JoAnn's. Then, I have some tiles to return at Lowe's and one of the blessings still has birthday money and has asked for a trip to the local toy store. Then, we will come home and veg the rest of the afternoon and evening. Make Pizza and have popcorn and watch a movie.

May the Lord find us faithful.

New self imposed blogging guidelines

I finally had to do it, I had to set some guidelines for myself. No computer at all until after school is finished for the day. Now, I have never been a power blogger but I just decided that this would be best for us all. One, I need to be doing other things in the morning before school starts. So, I not be around until dinner time for those of you in the eastern time zone. It worked out well today, I really do not think we started school any sooner, but had already folded three loads of laundry before school started. So, that helped.

I have to make this short as I have to make sure that my son's room is cleaned up for our "hunting guest" to sleep in there tonight. One of our wonderful military friends who used to be stationed here and members of our church is coming up to hunt with my husband this year. They are Alaskans at heart and look forward to seeing if the Lord wills them to return to AK upon retirement. I sure hope He does, we miss them bunches and bunches.(LAM, what a wonderful wife you are for supporting this trip as gracefully as I know you did.)  I made cheesecake for our guest tonight, wow, I forgot how much I like cheescake, I honestly do not remember the last time I made cheesecake. It could actually have been since Pa-Pa moved away from Alaska which was in 2003. Oh, my, what is wrong with me? Cheescake is so good, especially this recipe that I have. Any way, tomorrow I am going to take a few slices for my Pastor and his wife, Pastor really likes cheesecake. I am also doing a meal for someone, so I think I will include a couple of slices for them as well. It cannot stay around here with me being the only cheesecake eater around. My family are not big cheesecake eaters. What is wrong with them?

Do you all know what I am eating for lunch right now? Of course not, I am having a baked potato with chicken, broccoli, sour cream and a little cheddar. Yum! I have a dinner recipe for something very similar to this that I will share soon. Maybe tomorrow.

Ya'll have a good rest of Thursday, more and better blogging tomorrow.

Since I spoke in length about the crock pot yesterday, I thought  I would list our menu for the week. I make a menu every week, but do not often think of posting in here.
Monday - Invited to a cook out

Tuesday - Turkey Pot Pie  making two, freezing one to give as a meal at church this weekend(recipe to follow at end of menu)

Saturday - Halibut sandwiches using leftover halibut, spinach and coleslaw

Sunday -  leftover pizza

Pa-Pa's chicken pot pie

1 pkg. frozen mixed vegetables

1/3 cup butter

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup chopped onion

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

1 3/4 cup chicken broth

2/3 cup milk

2 1/2-3 cups chicken or turkey

Melt butter in saucepan at med. heat. Stir in flour, onion, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly until bubbly. Remove from heat. Stir in broth and milk. Heat until boiling, stirring constantly. Do you use your crock pot?

I do and I love it, although this summer it has had more shelf time as I have grilled alot more. But it was still used at least once a week or maybe two. Let this wonderful kitchen servant keep you from becoming frantic as dinner time draws nearer. I am going to post some crock pot links today and I will try my best to post a couple of my crock pot recipes in the next few days.

Some things I do in the crockpot: baked potatoes (wrap in foil and turn it on low), rice can be cooked in the crockpot, soups (most recipes can be easily adapted for the crock pot), I make oatmeal in our crock pot: 1 cup steel cut oats 4 cups water put into the crock pot and cook on low or keep warm(my crock pot is fairly new and gets really hot, so keep warm gives us a nice well cooked oatmeal by morning) in the morning I add honey, brown sugar or succant and serve. This is one that has to be experimented with to get it the way you like it and it takes some getting used to the steel cut oats, I use Bob's red mill steel cut oats . So, have a back up plan the first time you make this

Sometimes I double the recipe to make sure we have leftovers and I make these muffins

Oatmeal Muffins

1 cup whole wheat pastry flour or all purpose

1 cup brown sugar

1 tsp. baking powder, I use Rumford

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Whisk together in a bowl:

1/2 cup oil

2 eggs

1 cup leftover oatmeal

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)

Combine ingredients until just combined; fill muffin tins 2/3 full; bake at 350 for 18 minutes

These are yummy!

Recipezaar has some crockpot recipes to look through, as does this site and this one and these are just ones I googled. So, instead of linking them here, google crock pot recipes  or even the meal you think you could use like "sloppy joes crock pot recipe". That is a good one to use.

So, experiment and research, those of you who read my open house blog, this is one of those "continuing education" areas. It also saves time and as most of us are getting back into the swing of things with school a crock pot can insure we get a healthy home cooked meal on the table with minimal effort on our part. Use those kitchen servants ladies!!

May the Lord find us faithful.

Hey, its fall, want to order a pizza?

You Belong in Fall
Intelligent, introspective, and quite expressive at times...
You appreciate the changes in color, climate, and mood that fall brings
Whether you're carving wacky pumpkins or taking long drives, autumn is a favorite time of year for you

What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either.

You are a very picky pizza eater. Not any pizza will do. You fit in best in the Northeast part of the US.

Your taste in food tends to favor what's rich and comforting. You prefer food that will definitely satisfy you.

You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices.

You are a flavorful and bold person. You should consider traveling to Spain.

The stereotype that best fits you is geek. You're the type most likely to order pizza to avoid leaving your computer.

Okay, I knew that I my favorite season was fall.

The pizza, hey sign me up for that trip to Spain, and Jenn, want to go? I do not think you should vacation at home!  Any how, I order pizza to avoid leaving the house, not just the computer! These days I make my own pizza, maybe that is why I am a picky pizza person!?

Enjoy your day, Pa-Pa, call me sometime!

May the Lord find us faithful.
