Back to Class

We had egg in a slice of toast for breakfast this morning. 

After breakfast and morning meeting everyone disappeared to get dressed and ready for the day.

I am working on Benjamin's people drawing. Getting better, I stressed the body today and we built a Mat Man with our Handwriting Without Tears set.

Science class today, good to get back after a time off.

The highlight of my day was spaghetti, salad and homemade French bread for dinner. Craving met.

Judith is swimming with the beginner group, which is really swim lessons to learn how to swim competitively. I started a book tonight.

A New Week Begins

Benjamin building a train this morning. Usually, a super big brother builds trains but today Benjamin is on his own.

After this science lab, I fell asleep. Yep, just got all heavy eyed and fell asleep.

 I am thankful for the already cooked lunch from yesterday and not needing to cook today. 

Tomorrow we are having spaghetti, I have been craving spaghetti for a week.

I guess no Monday would be complete without   pulling out the old steam cleaner to clean up a spill. Smoothie on the rug but came up easy with the steamer.

The evening concluded with Lego palooza and then Yahtzee.

Sunday

Our usual Sunday routine goes something like this:
French Toast and sausage for breakfast made by my wonderful husband
Sunday School and Morning Worship
Home for lunch
Afternoon at home playing, resting and sometimes working
Back to church for the Sunday evening service
Home again for a snack of popcorn and getting Dad ready for work on Monday.

The only difference this week was we had lunch at a friend's home and tonight is First Sunday Fellowship night at church.

I only got a couple of postsble pictures today. Benjamin did not want his picture taken on the way back to church this evening but he posed well while eating his rice krispie pumpkin dessert at church tonight.

Benjamin and I were home alone for a few hours today and he played with some friends.

Benjamin wrote a story and read it to me. The story was for Daddy

His last activity before Levi arrived home from bowling with the youth group was playing with Rummy-O his way, which is placing the numbers in order. 

Not to bad for a Saturday.

After this the evening held dinner (moose burgers and baked fries), clean up, Sunday dinner prep, ironing clothes, showers, and bedtime stories.

Curriculum

Today is Friday, the guys are duck hunting so the girls are enjoying a slow morning. Slow mornings are needed every so often.

I thought I would write about our curriculum today. We started using Trailguide to Learning from Geography Matters last school year. I fell in love. The kids liked it for the most part. I have been trying to create this curriculum on my own for years. We were stuck in Colonial and Pre-Revolutionary War times for far too long. Trailguide got us moving right on through to the Civil War, thanks to Paths of Settlement.

This year we are using Paths of Progress and using the high school supplement so that Levi is learning the same thing as the rest of us. We are learning about scientist and inventors and their lives and their work during the first unit.

The curriculum is all inclusive except for math.

Thursday

I chose a smoothie for breakfast this morning.

A couple of the kids work better with audio books or music and headphones. I don't get it but it works for them.

Wednesday

I realized today that I have been so busy with the big Blessings and their school during the day that I have failed to read aloud to Benjamin as I had been doing. 

George joined us while we read.

Benjamin and I took a quick trip to North Pole, just the two of us.

Yes, I look a bit tired here. This picture was taken in the afternoon after the picture of Benjamin and I in the van and after taking Judith to town for a visit to the walk in clinic. 

One of the books we read was an Eric Carle book. I love the illustrations in his books.

Benjamin finished Book A today and began Book B. He is enjoying these books. 

This is school

I think one of my most favorite things about educating my crew at home is the daily interaction we have. All.day.long. 

Some days are long and some days, like today, happen in an orderly and timely manner.

Elisabeth, Benjamin and myself were all piled up on the couch working today. Benjamin worked his Frontline and we are working through Get Ready for the Code book A, which is almost finished. 

Elisabeth is working on math with Math on the Level, which is working just wonderfully for her.

I love that four year old face, and yes, I am laying down, well reclining, and he is sitting on my legs. My neck was giving me some trouble but my wonderful husband seems to have worked most of the stiffness out.

Benjamin gets an A+ for technology today. He Voxer messaged his Daddy all by himself. He also sent a friend of mine a picture via voxer;-)

Voxer is one of our favorite apps, a walkie-talkie app. Voice, typing and even photo sharing. We love it. 

He took a lot of pictures today, including this one of his foot and the following selfie.
